How to Setup IPTV on Plex: Live TV Integration & XMLTV EPG Mapping Guide

### Why Integrate IPTV with Plex Media Server? Plex Media Server is the gold standard for self-hosted personal media management. By integrating your IPTV subscription into Plex Live TV & DVR, you can consolidate your local movie library and thousands of live broadcast feeds into one unified interface accessible across all your devices, complete with whole-home DVR recording capabilities. ### The Missing Link: Why You Need an M3U Proxy Plex natively expects live television input from physical hardware tuners like SiliconDust HDHomeRun. To feed an IPTV M3U stream into Plex, we utilize a lightweight, open-source proxy emulator such as **xTeVe** or its modern fork **Threadfin**. ### Step-by-Step Configuration 1. **Install Threadfin / xTeVe:** Run the proxy application on your Plex server host (Windows, macOS, Linux, or as a Docker container). 2. **Add Your M3U Playlist:** Inside the Threadfin web dashboard, navigate to **Playlist > New**. Enter your M3U playlist URL provided by said IPTV. 3. **Map the XMLTV EPG:** In the XMLTV tab, paste your provider EPG URL (`http://stream.saidiptv.com:8080/xmltv.php?...`). Threadfin will automatically map stream names to program guide metadata. 4. **Filter Your Channels:** Use Threadfin stream filters to select your favorite 100–300 channels (Plex performs best when fed a curated channel list rather than 20,000 unmanaged streams). 5. **Connect Plex to Threadfin:** Open Plex Media Server settings > **Live TV & DVR > Add Device**. Plex will discover your virtual HDHomeRun tuner on your local network. Enter your Threadfin XMLTV URL, and Plex will generate your unified guide.
